The Everyday Things

As I am writing this, I have a to-do list on my desk. It is amazing to me how much more productive I am when I have that little sheet of paper with items listed that I must get done.

This list got me thinking, what everyday things do I leave undone because I don't have them on my list? I ran across a website that has ideas for to-do lists and suggestions for overlooked tasks.

Let's begin:

When was the last time you put your cake stand in the bathroom? Or you used tin foil as a glassware scrubber? Well then this site is for you: New Uses for Old Things. Just beware, you may be on the website for hours! Happy re-using!

----------------------

Always seems like there should be an easier way to get from point A to point B, right? Or Ways to get things done quicker. These suggestions may be common knowledge to some but I appreciate that they are so many at one location and it's spelled out for me: Shortcuts

---------------------

Now this is right up my alley- Organizing with Everyday Items. In my family, we are on a budget and that means shopping smart and re-using. My favorite is using the vase for extra toilet paper and using a tissue box for holding extra plastic bags (those bag holding contraptions costs $$). Such genius. Sadly, I wish I could come up with this stuff on my own.  Take notes, I'm sure you have at least some of those items lying around your house now!

Finally, to those who are trying to start a to-do list - Ultimate To-Do List. This is NOT my creation, thanks again to Real Simple for putting it together!

Hope these quick suggestions offer you some organizing help. With the upcoming hustle and bustle of the holidays, start your organizing now! If you are in need of more suggestions, tips, or even a consultation contact Divine Order!

Carly and Eric - June 18, 2011

I thoroughly enjoy my job and this wedding made me love it that much more. I was blessed to befriend the bride and her family. I will also be doing her sister's wedding! Through the several meetings with the bride, I couldn't wait for their wedding day! Carly and Eric were so ready to be married; their love for each other very obvious and felt throughout the night of their wedding. Carly chose the perfect summer colors of red and yellow. The laid back atmosphere and all the family members made for a fun night.

Thrilled these two are hitched! They are a sweet couple and very, very much in love. Their wedding had several personal touches from celebrating the grooms birthday to the song written by Caleb for his beautiful bride.

Thank you, Chelsey, for letting me be a part of your special day. Another big thanks to Amy for helping with the decorations and flowers; couldn't have brought everything together otherwise!

This was my first wedding at the Antique Rose Emporium. Excited to have another venue under my belt. It was a fun night!

Kenzie and Travis - March 10, 2012

Kenzie was a fabulous bride to work with. She was so organized and on top of things! Most of the decorations she even made herself, this girl knew what she wanted and crafted her heart out. The teal and black theme came together beautifully. Great job, Kenzie!

I was very blessed to be a part of another wedding in the Whitmer family. Thank ya'll again for being so sweet!

Over Organized

Allow me to vent.

Pantries.
Spice racks.
Night stands.
Entertainment centers.
Junk drawers.

What do all of these have in common? They are being organized. Over organized in my opinion (junk drawer - irony?).

Maybe you haven't noticed my lack of posting on the blog or Facebook but I've been wrestling with this for some time. I started Divine Order to bring my enjoyment of organization to others' lives but now with organization becoming a fad, I'm not sure what to do.

Organizing is the new hoarding. Seriously, I think there needs to be a reality show on people that over organize their houses...offices...cars....I'm just as guilty in this department. Hello, I follow every organization blog I can find and Pinterest organization ideas. BUT I'm practical. My outlook is to make spaces easy to use with out buying every little organizing tub and basket out there. I actually preach against it. What's the purpose of organizing your stuff then buying new stuff to put the stuff in?! Do you see the problem? Too much stuff! I organize to limit that kind of thing. We really don't need it. Really. When I go into closets the first thing I ask as I start purging is, do you need this? Want, yes. Need? Think about it...

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a kitchen pantry having color coordinated baskets or bathroom drawers lines with mini trays to hold each item, but do you really need that? Does having those containers and trays make you happier? Or does it make your stuff look better? Does it make those items function any better? My perspective in a space is to make it easier to find an item when you need it. Not prettier.

What happens to that time and money spent organizing only to discover the newest item you bought won't fit into your system? Hmm? If you're going to buy something new toss or donate an older item. Whether that be clothes, shoes (weakness!), DVDs, furniture, etc.

Okay that's my soap box. Some may think I'm crazy (you just don't want to give up those hairbrushes!) but maybe this is giving others something to think about.

You're more than welcome to contact me to consult about organizing. Despite this rant, I still enjoy doing it. I just go about it differently.
